Above it All Mural

Marryam Moma’s remixed installation reimagines Atlanta’s urban landscape as a sanctuary for rest and reflection. Sponsored by The Modernist Design Collective, Marryam Moma blends paper, acrylics, gold leaf, and fashion elements to create a striking dialogue between the city’s energy and the power of stillness.

A monumental paper sculpture serves as a sculptural portal, inviting viewers to step away from chaos into a realm of contemplation. Its layered, organic forms reflect both fragility and strength, echoing the resilience needed to carve out space for rest.

Alongside the sculpture, Moma’s mural Above It All infuses dreamscapes and fantastical imagery, positioning leisure as an act of resistance and self-preservation. Through this collaboration, @themodernistatl curated design vision meets Moma’s public art installation, transforming urban space into a site for joy, reflection, and community.

MELANIN MACHINA: Stories of Us x United Nations

Talking Drum Sculpture

Visual artist MARRYAM MOMA's sculpture "Melanin Machina" displays at the United Nations as part of "The Stories of Us" exhibition. The piece presents an intergenerational portrait of Atlanta's changemakers—from civil rights icon John Lewis to curator Lauren Tate Baeza and young luminaries Zoey and Nola Jones.

In "Melanin Machina," Moma reimagines humanity's relationship with technology through layered symbolism: circuit board backdrops representing interconnected futures, organic forms blended with mechanical components that balance technological advancement with environmental stewardship, and golden bursts symbolizing sustainable energy and collective prosperity.

The work explores the concept of "ubuntu"—I am who I am because of who we all are—and poses a critical question: who will reimagine, dream, and build our shared future through transformative solidarity?
